‘Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?’ –Mk 4:40

Some people and some priests truly are disciplinarians, some are thinkers, some are all heart. A friend of ours from Yerevan told us that when she lived there, she and her friends knew all the priests and their personalities, and would pick where to worship accordingly.  If they were feeling wounded and needed love-well Fr. Arees was full of love, as were his sermons-so they went there. But when they felt complacent in their lives, well Fr. Moushegh was tough -as were his sermons-so they went there.  Preachers are predictable if they are preaching authentically. Some have even said that every preacher really only has one sermon. Not literally, of course, but if you laid out five hundred of my sermons, you may just find one common thread.  Hopefully they all reveal God’s light.  More specifically, they reveal God’s light reflected off my giftedness and sinfulness, my experience and lack thereof, my closeness to God and my distance.
