I would like to start today’s Easter sermon with a few questions. ‘How many of you sent out hundreds of Easter Cards this year?” “Has anyone attended a work or family Easter party?” “Is anyone sick of hearing endless Easter carols on the radio and endless Easter-themed television specials?” That’s what I thought, almost nobody.
Thank God, unlike Christmas, whose truth is buried under the 3-billion-dollar holiday industry, Easter has remained an essentially religious holiday. Yes, there’s peeps and chocolate eggs and easter egg hunts. There’s even some misguided adult in our neighborhood who leaves giant chalk bunny footprints on our driveway to try and Disney-fi Easter, just like Christmas. I am tempted to catch, shake and shout Kristos Hareav Ee Merelots- Christ is Risen from the Dead in this Easter Bunny’s face and tell him to keep his paws off the Death and Resurrection of my Lord.
