If the New Testament was a book like any other, we would say that it is badly written. It shows us nothing of the development of its main protagonist Jesus. We know nearly nothing about where he came from, how he was raised and was socialized. We know nothing about how his upbringing affected his personality and how he became the great person he was to be. But the Bible is not a novel. The author is God himself, working through writers inspired by His Holy Spirit. And God’s ways are not our ways. The Bible is saying something very important about who Jesus is and who we all might be, by his and our missing years….by preserving the mystery of how we come to be.
