A story reads best when we can read ourselves into it. We might find a particular character delightfully or despicably relatable. Maybe it’s a relationship we long for or a mystery to unravel. We find ourselves imagining how to interact with this character and resolve that situation. When we are drawn into a story, it comes alive today, it’s not just about other people, yesterday. The Armenian Church has always maintained that the Gospels read best when we read ourselves into them, and that the power of these stories can change the lives of whoever wishes to be a part of them. All we must do is continue to read and reread these sacred stories, and constantly rekindle our imagination to find ourselves in them.
