The Apostles Thaddeus & Bartholomew and Their Significance for the Armenian Church

This talk will explore early traditions surrounding the apostolic missions of Sts. Thaddeus and Bartholomew to the Armenians. Who were these apostles who came and evangelized in Armenia before St. Gregory the Illuminator and why was their memory so important to the later Armenian Church?
Dr. Jesse S. Arlen is director of the Krikor and Clara Zohrab Information Center and a postdoctoral research fellow in Armenian Christian Studies at Fordham University. He holds a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures from UCLA (2021). He has taught Classical Armenian at the Dumbarton Oaks and Hill Museum & Manuscript Library summer school as well as the University of Notre Dame, and has lectured on the medieval Armenian historical tradition and medieval Armenian poetry at St. Nersess Armenian Seminary. He has taught Western Armenian at the University of Michigan. His academic articles, studies, and translations have appeared in a number of international peer-reviewed journals.
